My hand at blogging the journey through optometry school- the ups, downs, and in-betweens.

tale as old as time.

my roommates were in Salt Lake City the past 5 days for AOA Convention (american optometric assoc). it gave me a chance to clean and craft and a tiny bit of baking. a classmate's baby girl was in the hospital for a few days with an infection so I made him and his wife dinner Wednesday night- chicken black bean enchilada casserole and pig pickin' cupcakes.

yesterday, I went to the farmer's market. I've been meaning to go for over a year now, but just never have. I promise, I'll be going back again. I got some tomatoes, cucumbers, and green beans. The tomatoes are the best ones I've eaten since I was at home last summer. I'm excited to blanch the green beans and eat them too!

I found this idea on pinterest friday night. What a perfect way to display/organize your dangle-y earrings. Of course, since I had a little bit of free time this weekend, I ran to Hobby Lobby and got a staple gun (cue Tim the Tool Man grunting) and a frame. This project took no more than 30 minutes. It's practical. It's simple. It's super fun! I hung it in the bathroom because the walls are so bare. I wanted the wire to attach in the inset part of the wood (where the glass would rest) so that the earrings would be away from the wall a little, but the wood wasn't thick enough and splintered out a little. Whoops. I think it would be better if it could be propped up instead of hanging, but I don't really have anywhere for it.

I also grabbed a floral foam half-sphere to arrange some dried flowers. Calleen had the prettiest bouquets and I was able to dry some of the flowers. They've been sitting in a bowl on my desk since August so I arranged them in a(n XL) martini glass.

I was really excited to do some laundry too. We got a new dryer a week ago that is supposed to be better than our old one. It was for the load of sheets I did the same day we got it, but now it took me 3-4 cycles to dry loads of varying amounts... It looks like maintenance men are going to have to do some vent cleaning. You'd think they'd have checked that before giving us a new dryer...
A few weeks ago I talked to my friend Janelle about going to a Broadway production of Disney's Beauty and the Beast at the Orpheum sometime this weekend. Things had gotten busy and I had kind of forgotten about it, but she called me and asked if I wanted to go. I kind of debated it for a while, but came to the realization that there was no way on earth I could turn down the opportunity to go-- who are we kidding here? Beauty and the Beast is MY FAVORITE Disney movie. I think I wore out Grandma Mary's copy of it when I was 4... so much so that she bought it for me. Throw my love for the movie in with my love for live theater... I had a perma-smile through the entire performance. I wanted to take a million pictures, but they frown heavily on that. I did sneak one at the beginning during "Belle." All of the numbers were great. Scene changes were practically non-existent. It just flowed so smoothly. "Be Our Guest" was spectacular- dancing flatware and plates... I am almost tempted to go again tonight.

Someday, I'll sit here... Someday

Before the show... So excited.

Acquired using stealth.
The only other professional shows I have seen was at the Lied in college- "Hairspray" my junior year and "Rent" my sophomore year. Both were fantastic shows, but I think this one might top it, just slightly. I can't let it be over a year until I see another show- whether it be Community Theatre, School Production, or what have you. I'm too dramatic to not go more frequently.

  1. Earring frame = brilliant! I made up my own creation for my earings, but it is definitely inferior to yours. Maybe I can conjur up some craft time this weekend... :)
